About

We are a licensed, bonded, and insured landscape contracting company serving Tucson, Green Valley, and southern Pima County. We've been landscaping and growing native and edible plants for over 25 years. With a background in landscape contracting and organic farming, Partner/Contractor Colin Guiley started this business after graduating with an honors B.S. in Biology from Southern Oregon University. This education gave him a deeper understanding and appreciation of ecology and inspired him to do something hands-on to improve habitats in the "built" environments (urban and suburban landscapes) we share with our wild neighbors. In the Sonoran desert and elsewhere, rainwater harvesting and planting locally native plants creates a positive feedback loop of water conservation, cooling, erosion prevention, and supporting wildlife while also making for beautiful, livable landscapes.

What We Do

Native Plants

We believe the best plants for a landscape are the ones that evolved for that specific environment. With two wet seasons a year, the Sonoran desert presents unique growing conditions for plants. To achieve our goal of creating thriving landscapes with as little irrigation as possible, we choose plants that are adapted to the environment they are being planted in. This also has the added benefit of attracting more locally native birds, butterflies, and other wildlife.

Rainwater Harvesting

The Sonoran desert is the wettest desert in the world, with Tucson receiving an average of 11" of rain a year over two distinct rainy seasons. But it is still a desert, so we believe that passive (earthworks) and/or active (rain tanks/cisterns) rainwater harvesting is an essential part of any landscape in Pima County. Also, rainwater harvesting basins can create attractive topography in a landscape while allowing potentially huge amounts of water to soak into the soil and water plants rather than causing erosion and running off into overtaxed stormwater systems.

Irrigation

Water is a precious resource, especially in the SW United States. As such, it is our goal to create landscapes that conserve water as much as possible. Ideally, landscapes would survive and thrive on the water that falls from the sky, but irrigation is often necessary, at least to get plants established and to keep them alive through drought years. But much water is wasted through unnecessary watering and faulty irrigation systems. To avoid this, we install smart irrigation systems that only water when plants need it, and use long-lasting, durable components to minimize wasteful (and expensive) irrigation leaks. High quality parts also last much longer than traditional drip tubing, saving expense and resources/landfill in replacing drip systems in the future.

Other Services

In addition to the above, we also install a full range of hardscaping such as pavers, flagstone, water features for birds, and retaining walls. We also offer maintenance services including light pruning, weeding, and irrigation maintenance/repair.
